RAPID CITY, S.D. – A civil rights lawsuit against a Rapid City hotel was canceled on the day it was scheduled for trial.

NDN Collective, Rapid City, held a press conference Monday following the bankruptcy filing of the Grand Gateway Hotel over the weekend.

In 2022, NDN Collective filed a federal civil rights class action lawsuit against the Grand Gateway Hotel, accusing the hotel of refusing service to Native Americans numerous times.

The bankruptcy filing was submitted Saturday by the Restel Corporation, the owners of the Grand Gateway Hotel.

NDN collective says filing for bankruptcy is a tactic to delay justice and accountability for the racist remarks about Native Americans made more than two years ago.

NDN collective president Nick Tilsen says the fight for justice is far from over, but NDN Collective is determined to hold the Grand Gateway Hotel accountable regardless of the delays.
