Rapid City Homeowner Holds Burglary Suspect at Gunpoint

RAPID CITY, S.D. – An 18-year-old Sturgis man was arrested and faces multiple charges after a homeowner held him at gunpoint during an alleged home burglary attempt in Rapid City on Thursday night.

Rapid City Police were dispatched to a residence in the 2000 block of Monte Vista Drive around 10:50 p.m. on October 30th for a report of a burglary in progress. Officers were already in the area investigating a separate, recent vehicle burglary.

Upon arrival, officers found the homeowner detaining a male suspect at gunpoint. The suspect, identified as Landon Green, 18, of Sturgis, was subsequently detained by police.

Police spoke with the homeowner, who reported being woken up by an unknown noise. As the homeowner went to investigate, he saw someone attempting to enter the residence. The homeowner called 911 before exiting the residence, where he observed three unknown males.

Two of the males fled the area on foot. According to the police account, the third male- Green- was attempting to flee but became stuck in a window frame of the residence before falling to the ground. The homeowner then held Green at gunpoint until police arrived.

Officers located a knife on Green’s person. Green was arrested for First Degree Burglary, Concealed Weapons Violation, and Possession of Burglary Tools. He was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
