RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun was joined by community and development officials Tuesday at the ribbon cutting for the Shepherd Hills Regional Water Booster Pump Station.
Located at the intersection of East Philadelphia Street and East Anamosa Street, the booster pump station went online in April providing quality water to one of Rapid City’s fastest-growing areas.
In December 2023, the Rapid City Council approved a nearly $5.1 million award to RCS Construction, Inc. for construction of the regional booster pump station which serves as an important water supply to the area, supporting existing and future area customers. The facility is part of Tax Increment District #84, which was approved by the City Council to assist in the development of commercial, industrial and residential properties between E. North Street and Elk Vale Road. The increment generated from the district will fund portions of the city’s critical water distribution improvements, portions of E. Anamosa Street, North Valley Drive and Mickelson Drive, and the relocation of utilities.
The project was also funded with a grant of more than $1.07 million from the South Dakota Housing Development Authority as part of the Housing Infrastructure Financing Grant Program.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Mayor Salamun also recognized the work of long-time Engineering Onsite Representative Dale Ludens, who has worked with the State of South Dakota and South Dakota National Guard and, having retired, has served for more than a decade as a consultant providing construction observation to the City of Rapid City on several water facility projects.
