RAPID CITY, S.D. (Oct. 21, 2025) — Rapid City Central High School’s beloved mascot, Karl the Cobbler, has hammered his way into the Final Four of The64’s “America’s Best High School Mascot Tournament.”
Representing both Rapid City and the Black Hills on the national stage, Karl the Cobbler joins a unique group of finalists: the Hutto High School Hippos from Texas, the Hampton High School Crabbers from Virginia, and the Sleepy Hollow High School Headless Horseman from New York.
This achievement comes during a milestone year for Rapid City Central, which recently celebrated 100 years of Karl the Cobbler as the school’s official mascot—a symbol deeply tied to the city’s history and the school’s “Cobbler Pride.”
