Rapid City Central Press Release

Rapid City Central High School Activities Director Jordan Bauer announced on Monday, May 19th that Brandon Colpitts will be switching roles from head football coach to assistant football coach at Rapid City Central.

Coach Colpitts makes this change after two seasons with the Cobblers so that he can better fulfill his new duties as the Riddell Football Sales Representative for the state of South Dakota. In his new role with Riddell, Coach Colpitts will focus on advancing player safety and equipment education — a natural extension of his passion for the sport and for athlete well-being.

“What Coach Colpitts has accomplished in just two seasons with Cobbler Football is truly remarkable,” said Activities Director Jordan Bauer. “His leadership, commitment to building meaningful relationships, and full embrace of our vision for Cobblers Athletics have made a lasting impact on our program. We are incredibly grateful for his contributions and wish him the very best in his new role with Riddell,” state Bauer.

Colpitts has been the head football coach for the Cobblers for the last two years. Colpitts led the Cobblers to its first playoff appearance in six years. He also helped the program snap a 29-game losing streak. Colpitts efforts have redefined the football culture at Rapid City Central and has brought new life to the Cobbler football program.

“After much reflection, I’ve made the decision to accept a new professional opportunity with Riddell. It has been an absolute honor to serve as the head football coach at Rapid City Central High School. Over the past two years, our players and coaches have worked incredibly hard to turn this program around, and I could not be prouder of what we’ve accomplished together. I’m deeply grateful to our assistant coaches, dedicated parents, and—most of all—the amazing athletes who have committed themselves to building something special. I especially want to thank Activities Director Jordan Bauer and Principal Terry Lundeen for their unwavering support and leadership. Their belief in our vision played a critical role in reshaping the culture of Cobbler football.”

This is a bittersweet moment. While I’m excited to begin this next chapter in my career with Riddell, leaving the head coaching role is not easy. Fortunately, this isn’t goodbye—I’ll remain part of the Rapid City Central football family as a volunteer assistant coach. This program means a great deal to me, and I look forward to continuing to support our players and coaches in a new capacity.”

“We will begin the search process immediately to identify the next head football coach for Rapid City Central High School,” said Activities Director Jordan Bauer. “We’re looking for a candidate who brings enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and a strong commitment to building meaningful relationships with our student-athletes.

Equally important will be the ability to implement systems that align with the strengths of our current athletes, giving them the best opportunity for success. These qualities will be key factors in our selection process as we move forward.” If you are interested in applying for the position, please reach out to Jordan Bauer at jordan.bauer@k12.sd.us or 605-394-4041.
