
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The City of Rapid City issued 234 building permits in June with a combined valuation of more than $33 million. The valuation total was the fourth-highest total ever recorded for Rapid City for the month of June and nearly $20 million higher than the valuation total recorded in June 2024.
The City has issued 1,153 building permits for the first half of 2025 with a six-month valuation total of more than $161.5 million. The totals compare to 1,235 permits issued in the first six months of 2024 with a combined valuation total of more than $155.8 million.
Included in the totals are 91 permits issued in the first six months for single family homes, including 10 issued in June. The half-year total of permits for single family homes compares to 63 issued for the same period in 2024. A total of 119 permits for single family homes were issued in all of 2024.
Top building permits issued for June include a permit valued at $15.15 million to Butler Machinery, Co. with Olaf Anderson Construction, Inc. as contractor for a phase two addition to the facility at 3601 Deadwood Avenue North; a permit value at $5.86 million t the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota with Gustafson Builders as contractor for alterations to the facility at 5301 Mount Rushmore Road; and a permit valued at $2.05 million to Pilot Properties, Inc. with Pilot Properties LLC as contractor for a 12-unit apartment complex at 443 Neel Street.
