RAPID CITY, S.D. – Officials in Rapid City say they saw a slight dip in building permit valuations in March, but the first quarter of 2024 marked the fourth-best performance since 2000.
Since the beginning of the year, the city has issued 471 permits, amounting to a total value of nearly $96 million. While this represents a decrease compared to last year’s first quarter valuations, which totaled nearly $118 million, it’s noteworthy that this year’s first quarte surpassed the figures for both 2020 and 2021.
Rapid City Communications Coordinator Darrell Shoemaker said, “The main item for this last month was a booster station that’s going to service the Shepard apartment areas. That’s about a $5 million project.”
Vicki Fisher, the Community Development Director said that her office will closely monitor permit activity as the spring and summer months approach, anticipating a rebound from March’s comparatively lower numbers.
