Rapid City Area Schools Hires New Superintendent

RAPID CITY, SD— In a 6-1 roll-call vote yesterday, the Rapid City Board of Education voted to hire on Dr. Jami Jo Johnson as the school district’s new superintendent. 

The candidate, announced as the chosen candidate in a March 14th Release is currently serving as the superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools (Norfolk, Nebraska) has been called a “skilled education leader” with a wealth of experience in the field of educational administration.

During the Board meeting, Member Christine Stephenson said “I think Dr. Thompson’s going to be an extraordinary leader for this district,” emphasizing that she looked forward to working with Dr. Thomson. 

Board Member Walt Swan was the only dissenter in this vote, stating only that he wished for the vote to be an independent item on the agenda. “I think it should be something that we need to address at that level because this is the next leader. To be placed there with everything else… I think it should have been a separate vote” said Swan.
