Mitchell, SD – Offense proved elusive for the Stevens Raiders Varsity baseball team on Saturday as they fell to Mitchell High Varsity by a narrow 1-0 margin. Despite a stellar pitching performance from Ian Beer, who went the distance and recorded 18 outs while striking out nine, the Raiders couldn’t muster enough offense to secure the win.
Mitchell High managed to push across the lone run of the contest in the fifth inning with a timely double. Raiders’ Beer and Austin Flohr each managed a single hit, but that was all the offense Stevens could muster against Mitchell’s pitcher, Carter McCormick. McCormick earned the victory, allowing just two hits over five innings.
The Raiders will look to turn the tables next Saturday as they travel to Mitchell for a rematch.
