RAPID CITY, S.D.- Organizers with the “Pack the Pantry” food drive by Rapid City’s Public Works Department and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) reported a strong start, collecting 100 pounds of food on the first day of collection.

The drive, aimed at supporting local hunger relief efforts in Rapid City and the surrounding Black Hills area of South Dakota, runs through November 23.

Residents can contribute by dropping off non-perishable food items at several key locations throughout Rapid City. Collection bins are available at City Hall, the Rapid City Public Library, Fire Station 1, the Bus Depot, the Public Safety Building and both Family Fare grocery store locations.

Cash donations are also being accepted. Monetary contributions will directly benefit two vital programs: Rapid Cityโ€™s Meals On Wheels program, which provides food to homebound seniors, and the Backpack Program, which ensures that local South Dakota students have food over the weekends.
