Public Safety Director position to be phased out

SPEARFISH, SD – The public safety leadership model will soon be changing for the City of Spearfish with the retirement of Public Safety Director Pat Rotert in June. In its place, the Chief of Police and Fire Chief will begin reporting to the City Administrator.

“The creation of the Public Safety Director position in 2019 and Director Rotert’s leadership within that model have been crucial to moving these departments forward,” said City Administrator Bobby Falcon. “I’m confident that the work done up to this point has poised the departments in an operational condition where they can be effectively managed by their respective chiefs with oversight by me.”

Code Enforcement, which currently falls under the Police Department, will remain unchanged, as will Building Inspections that reside under the Planning Department.
