SUMMERSET, S.D. — The Summerset Police Department is inviting the entire community to join them for a day of fun, learning, and connection at Public Safety Day on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Summerset Police Department. The free, family-friendly event will be hosted by radio personality Amy Rose and promises something for everyone.

Public Safety Day will showcase a wide range of area first responders, including the Summerset Police Department, Meade County, South Dakota Highway Patrol, local volunteer fire departments, and LifeFlight. Visitors will have the chance to meet the men and women who keep the community safe, explore emergency vehicles up close, and learn about their work. Monument Health will offer interactive demonstrations, including a heart and lung display, giving attendees a behind-the-scenes look at lifesaving care.

For kids and kids at heart, there will be plenty of hands-on fun. Children can test their aim at the dunk tank, which will feature the school resource officer from Stagebarn and surrounding schools. Additional family activities and safety games will keep young visitors engaged while helping them learn important safety tips.

The day will also feature a raffle and giveaways, with prizes like bike helmets, T-shirts, and other summer essentials. And no summer event would be complete without food. Attendees can enjoy free burgers, hot dogs, and ice cream while mingling with neighbors and first responders.

Whether you come to see the demonstrations, let the kids enjoy the activities, or simply grab some lunch and ice cream, Public Safety Day is a great opportunity to connect with your community in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
