RCPD’s Community Engagement Team seeks school supplies supporting Cody Two Bulls’ Backpacks & Baseball effort to help area youth
RAPID CITY, SD—For a fourth consecutive year, local law enforcement officials are encouraging the public to participate in the ‘Fill a Patrol Car with School Supplies’ effort, supporting the dedicated work of a Rapid City Central high school senior to collect school supplies for students in need.
The Rapid City Police Department’s Community Engagement Team in partnership with WalMart is hosting the annual event, scheduled at both Rapid City WalMart stores this Friday from 12- 6 p.m. Patrol cars and officers will be located near the entrances of both facilities to accept donations.
This year will mark the final year of a partnership with Cody Two Bulls of Backpacks & Baseball. Two Bulls, a senior at Rapid City Central High School, is again organizing a back pack and supplies giveaway for area students, to include local students served by the RCPD’s Community Engagement Team.
Last year, Two Bulls collected enough supplies to hand out 600 backpacks to students in need.
“Year after year, it’s amazing to see the outpouring of community support for this school supply drive,” said Rapid City Chief of Police Don Hedrick. “We’re honored to be a partner in Cody’s efforts to bring school supplies to those in need, and grateful for the community’s support to help make sure local students can start the new school year on the right foot.”
Community officials say Two Bulls’ efforts helps inspire others to join in an effort to help the community.
“We are excited to support Cody. He’s an inspiration and he’s so focused on giving back to the community,” said Jamie Kirsch of the Rapid City Police Department’s Community Engagement Team. “We’re encouraging the public to stop by and purchase a few supplies for donation. Drop any donated items off at the patrol vehicles parked at the store entrance.”
Suggested school supplies for donation include backpacks, color pencils, crayons, pencil cases, pens, pencils, folders, three-ring binders, paper, notebooks, headphones, glue sticks, dry erase or regular markers, scissors and tissue boxes.
