STURGIS, S.D. – Professional motorcycle racer Tyler O’Hara made his first-ever appearance at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this week, joining the celebration during its 85th anniversary and soaking in the Black Hills scenery.
O’Hara, who races for Indian Motorcycle in the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers series, described the event as a “whole other level” compared to other motorcycle gatherings like Daytona Bike Week.
“The vibe is incredible. The people are very kind. It’s very biker-friendly,” O’Hara said. “The weather doesn’t get much better.”
O’Hara was in Sturgis for the induction of his boss, Gary Gray, into the Sturgis Hall of Fame. The California native and AMA national champion said he was taking in the sights and looking for a good place to eat before heading to his next race in Ohio.
Riding the Indian Challenger, a modern American V-twin, O’Hara represents the Indian Motorcycle Wrecking Crew, a team that has secured three national titles in the King of the Baggers series—two of them his own. His teammates include Troy Herfoss of Australia and Loris Baz of France.
O’Hara praised the Black Hills for their natural beauty and the quality of the riding, calling the region “a gorgeous place, if not the world.”
