PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Lottery players are on a winning streak, with three new big winners announced from a recent Powerball drawing. This comes on the heels of a $2 million winner in Mobridge and other recent jackpot winners in the state.
A player who purchased a ticket in Sioux Falls won a $500,000 second prize by using the Powerball’s Double Play add-on. The ticket, bought at Hy-Vee Gas on 5201 W. 26th St., matched five of five numbers in the secondary Double Play drawing. The player was just one number away from winning the $10 million top prize for the Double Play game.
Another Double Play ticket proved fruitful, with a $50,000 third prize win for a player in Watertown. That ticket was purchased at Stones Truck Stop.
A third winner, who purchased their ticket in Philip, won a $200,000 prize in the traditional Powerball game. The ticket, bought at 4E Foods, matched four of five winning numbers plus the Powerball. The prize was then multiplied by four due to the Power Play add-on.
The recent wins add to an already impressive month for South Dakota Lottery players, including a Lotto America jackpot winner and two Dakota Cash jackpot winners in August. The Powerball jackpot for the next drawing is an estimated $950 million, the sixth-largest in the game’s history.
The South Dakota Lottery advises winners to sign the back of their tickets immediately. Prizes can be claimed at any of the state’s lottery redemption centers within 180 days of the drawing.
The state’s General Fund receives 70 percent of the net revenue from lotto games, with the money supporting K-12 schools, state universities, and technical institutes. The remaining 30 percent goes to the state’s Capital Construction Fund, which supports various state funds including the Water and Environment Fund, Ethanol Fuel Fund, and State Highway Fund.
