PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Lottery players’ winning ways continued Wednesday with a trio of big winners.
The big winners were highlighted by a player who made the most of Powerball’s Double Play add on. The add on, which puts a ticket’s numbers into a second drawing, resulted in a $500,000 second prize.
The winning ticket was purchased at Hy Vee Gas, located on 5201 W. 26th St. in Sioux Falls. The player matched 5 of 5 winning numbers in the Double Play drawing and was just the Double Play Powerball away from winning the add on’s $10 million top prize.
The Double Play feature also proved to be fruitful for another player, who won the $50,000 third prize. The $50,000 winning ticket was purchased at Stones Truck Stop in Watertown.
The traditional Powerball game also had its share of excitement in the Mount Rushmore State. A $200,000 prize was won after a player matched 4 of 5 winning numbers plus the Powerball for the game’s third prize. The Power Play add on then multiplied the prize by 4. The $200,000 ticket was purchased at 4E Foods in Philip.
The trio of big wins comes off the heels of the Aug. 23 Powerball drawing resulting in a $2 million winner in Mobridge. South Dakota has also been home to a Lotto America jackpot winner and two Dakota Cash jackpot winners during the month of August.
The buzz around Powerball won’t subside going into Labor Day weekend. Saturday’s jackpot is currently an estimated $950 million, which is the sixth largest in the game’s history.
The South Dakota Lottery advises the winners to sign the back of their tickets immediately. Players have 180 days after the date of the drawing to claim their prize.
Players may claim their prize at any South Dakota Lottery redemption center. For more information on the prize claim process, visit https://lottery.sd.gov/claim-your-prize/.
