It was another action-packed night at Pete Lien Memorial Field as the Post 320 Stars hosted a doubleheader against Smittys Legion 2025 Aberdeen. With clutch hitting, gritty pitching, and a flair for late-inning drama, Post 320 swept the games, winning the first game 10-6 and the second 4-3.
Game 1: Stars Outplay Smittys
Tegan Sayles was a one-man hitting machine in the opener, going 3-for-5 with three singles and driving the offensive engine for the Stars. He wasn’t alone, as Post 320 racked up 14 hits in total as their bats came alive early and often.
The Stars overcame a rocky start after a two-run error in the first inning gave Aberdeen the lead. They roared back in the bottom of the second behind RBI singles from Ethan Wilson and Tegan Sayles to go up 4-2.
Aberdeen briefly regained the lead in the fourth, but Colton Mehlhaff’s RBI single flipped the script again, and the Stars never looked back. Seth Lefebre delivered a steady performance out of the bullpen, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing just one run.
Kason Kostenbauer added two stolen bases to a multi-hit performance, while Mehlhaff, Wilson, and Sayles each drove in a pair of runs. Nolan Williamson, Noah Wald, and Ayden Byrd all chipped in with multiple hits to round out a balanced offensive effort.
Despite the loss, Grant Beyer provided a highlight for Aberdeen with a solo home run and a 2-for-3 night at the plate, while the team swiped an impressive eight bases.
Game 2: Wald’s Walk Seals Comeback Victory
The nightcap proved to be a nail-biter. Down 3-0 after a big third inning from Aberdeen, Post 320 battled back with late-game grit.
Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth, cleanup hitter Noah Wald drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run. Wald also notched a pair of RBIs, including a key one earlier in the inning to start the rally. Jhett Peterson added a sac fly to contribute to the comeback.
Pitching was the story in this one. Nolan Williamson was lights-out on the mound for the Stars, tossing a complete game and allowing no earned runs over seven innings while striking out four. Despite a strong showing by Aberdeen starter Cooper Eisenbeisz, who allowed just three runs over five innings, the Stars’ hitting proved decisive.
Offensively, Kason Kostenbauer, Ethan Wilson, and Mehlhaff again led the charge with two hits apiece, while the defense turned a double play to help Williamson work out of a jam.
Aberdeen’s Joe Cogley continued to produce in the heat of the game, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Ridley Waldo and Jehiel Aviles each chipped in a hit.
