STURGIS, SD – Post 33 couldn’t keep up with Post 22 and fell 12-0 in five innings on Wednesday at Strong Field, in the Titans American Legion season opener.
The Hardhats jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Lars Kieffer singled, scoring one run, Jace Morgan singled, scoring two runs, Dexter Steen doubled, scoring two runs, and Kieffer drew a walk, scoring one run.
Post 22 added one run in the second when Dawson Inhofer singled down the left field line, making the score 7-0. The Hardhats plated three runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth to put the game out of reach to win by the 10-run mercy rule, 12-0.
Inhofer got the pitching win for Post 22 (16-1-1), giving up just one hit while striking out three on 34 pitches. The Hardhats pounded out eight hits and were led by Morgan, who went 3-for-3 with five RBIs.
Aidan Wood took the loss for Post 33, allowing four hits and six runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking four. George Hamer and Carter Williams each had one hit for the Titans.
Sturgis Post 33 (0-1) will travel to Rapid City Post 320 for their next game on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
