RAPID CITY, SD — Today at 1:30pm in a joint press conference Rapid City Police and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office provided more information on the search for Nicholas Selig, who has been named a person of interest in an ongoing homicide investigation which began yesterday evening.
Following yesterday’s discovery of a body by law enforcement in the area of Victoria Lake Road and First Thunder Road Nicholas was established as a primary person of interest allegedly in connection to 57-year-old Vernon Selig, who was killed by a gunshot wound to the head. In their update Christian Sigel (RCPD) and Taylor Sperle (PCSO) stated that both departments have been working tirelessly on this search in conjunction with other organizations throughout the night and have urged any residents in the area to report sightings of Nicholas and review recordings on home security cameras, such as Ring doorbells, which may provide key information as the investigation continues.
According to Sigel, the last known location of Nicholas Selig is the area of Clarkson road, where a key piece of information was found. “We have several pieces of evidence that led us to this location, but we have recovered the Nicholas’s green Kia Soul vehicle in which evidence believes that he abandoned in that area,” said Siegel. He is believed to have disappeared in this area, which is rural, wooded, and features both natural and man-made obstacles, however information past this is either still being investigated, processed, or is being kept from public eyes at this time. “the information that we can provide is limited,” said Sperle.

Citizens should be on the lookout for a 30-year-old man dressed in black and wearing a black-brimmed hat, but should under no circumstances approach Selig and should not hesitate to call 911. Selig is to be considered armed and dangerous, and tips may be provided to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office at 605-394-6115.
