UPDATE: Police Identify Victim In Continuing Investigation of Watertown Street Shooting

RAPID CITY, SD — Police have confirmed the identity of the victim in a fatal shooting yesterday as 29-year-old Monte Gakin.

The shooting, which at this time is believed to not be connected to the prior shooting of Vernon Selig comes as the second such death in two days. While investigation seeking key evidence continues, police have confirmed that they are currently searching for several people who they believe to be Persons of Interest in the homicide.

The Rapid City Police Department has issued a call for information relevant to the investigation to contact Detective Brendan Lenard at 605-394-4134 or to text 847411 with the phrase “RCPD” to submit an anonymous tip.

UPDATE: This morning, the RCPD has revealed the names of persons of interest in this ongoing investigation: Max Martinez, 23 and Brittany Dillon, 24. They have not been officially labelled as suspects, however they are being sought for information in connection with the death of Monte Gakin. Anyone with information on their whereabouts can contact the RCPD via the methods listed prior.
