Police Arrest Woman Following Sunday Pursuit

RAPID CITY, SD — On Sunday morning at 3:15am, a car was stopped on E. Saint Patrick street after being spotted without headlights on. The otherwise routine stop was interrupted however when 26-Year-Old Veronica Perez of Rapid City “…Refused to roll down the window. The officer observed her retrieve a pill from the center console and proceed to smoke it using a glass pipe,” according to an RCPD statement on the incident. 

Following this, Perez then drove away from the scene, leading to a pursuit which ended in the area of Saint Andrew and 5th Street. “After multiple commands for Perez to exit the vehicle, she still refused to comply. Police approached the vehicle and extracted her from the car,” said the RCPD. After being removed from her vehicle, Perez was arrested and booked at Pennington County Jail for DUI, Eluding, Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Ingestion of a Controlled Substance, Driving Under Suspension, No Proof of Insurance, Driving without Headlights, and six Warrants.
