RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Arts Council will showcase the work of local photographer Ankit Negi in its upcoming Emerging Visual Artist (EVA) exhibition, Rush-less in Rushmore, on display July 7 through August 29 at the Bruce H. Lien Cultural Café & Gallery inside the Dahl Arts Center.
An artist reception will be held Thursday, July 17, from 5 to 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Negi, a self-taught digital wildlife photographer and founder of Currylab Captures, was born in the Himalayan foothills of India and now lives in Rapid City. His work focuses on South Dakota’s native wildlife, emphasizing ethical, unbaited photography that captures raw moments of survival, stillness and connection in the wild.
Recent projects include documenting bison births in Custer State Park and studying burrowing owls in Badlands National Park.
Negi’s exhibit encourages viewers to slow down and experience the often-overlooked stillness between subject and lens, offering a quieter, more meditative take on wildlife photography.
The EVA program supports artists who are new to gallery exhibitions by offering guidance on curating, critiquing, pricing and promotion. Applications for the 2025 EVA season are now open.
