Ozzy Osbourne Confirmed Dead, Black Hills Performances Remembered

RAPID CITY, S.D. – “Ozzy” Osbourne, the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath and a highly successful solo artist, has died at the age of 76. Multiple outlets reported his passing on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Osbourne was known globally as the “Prince of Darkness” and was a two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Osbourne’s career spanned over five decades, beginning with the formation of the pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath in 1968. He went on to achieve massive success as a solo artist, releasing multiple platinum-selling albums.

Fans may recall Osbourne’s memorable performances at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip on August 9, 2017 and on August 10, 2010 and in Rapid City on November 6, 2007 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center(The Monument). His shows at the Buffalo Chip and Civic Center included both his solo hits and classic Black Sabbath tracks.

Osbourne’s family released a statement confirming his death, noting he was “with his family and surrounded by love.” He had been open about his health struggles, including a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in 2003 and a fall in 2019 that required neck surgery. He recently performed a farewell concert with Black Sabbath in July 2025.
