RAPID CITY – As temperatures begin to rise, Rapid City is preparing for a busy summer at its outdoor pools. The city has announced opening dates and a range of special promotions for the upcoming season, aiming to build on increased attendance seen in the Black Hills region last year.
The Horace Mann, Parkview, and Sioux Park pools are scheduled to open Friday, May 30, and will operate daily from noon to 6 p.m. The 50-meter outdoor pool at the Roosevelt Swim Center will open this Saturday, May 24, with hours from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and noon to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.
Daily swim passes are priced at $8 for adults and youth, and $7 for senior citizens aged 62 and older. Quarterly, yearly, and 20-punch passes are also available. A “Hello Summer” discount is currently being offered, providing 10 percent off quarterly or 20-punch passes purchased Thursday through Saturday of this week at the Roosevelt Park Swim Center.
Last summer, Rapid City’s four outdoor pools—Sioux Park, Parkview, Horace Mann, and Roosevelt Park Swim Center—recorded a combined 81,025 admissions. This marked an increase from 73,097 admissions in 2023 and 80,412 in 2022, with all four facilities reporting higher numbers.
This season introduces a $4 “Quick Dip Hour Pass” from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the city pools. Sundays will feature “Funday 4 Sunday,” allowing groups of four to be admitted for $16, with each additional person paying the regular admission cost.
The pools will also host a series of special themed events throughout the summer. The Roosevelt Swim Center will offer two Sensory Swim times on July 12 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and August 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A Family Swim Night is planned for June 11 at Jimmy Hilton pool at Sioux Park Pool from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Additionally, two “Teen Nights” are scheduled at Horace Mann Pool from 6:30 p.8 m. to 8 p.m. on July 16 and August 13.
An “End of Summer Bash Community Drive Event” is set for Saturday, August 16, to mark the final day of swimming at the Horace Mann and Parkview pools. Admission to these facilities on this day will be free with a donation to the Cornerstone Rescue Mission.
All pools will be open on Independence Day, July 4, from noon to 4 p.m.
