STURGIS, S.D. – Friday marks the official start of the 85th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and its expected to be a big year.

Over half a million people are anticipated to attend this year’s event, which runs through August 10th.

The opening ceremony to open up this year’s Rally features the arrival of the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales. City Administrator Aaron Jordan anticipates 25 to 30 motorcycles will be alongside the horse drawn wagon.

Jordan says they have a plan to help make it easier for the Clydesdales to get to Harley Davidson Rally Point.

Jordan says one of the fire department’s Rosenbauer trucks will also be on hand with their boom stretched out with the American Flag.

The opening ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. with remarks anticipated from Mayor Kevin Forrester, sponsor reps and other dignitaries. This year’s Grand Marshal, centenarian Gloria Tramontin Struck is also expected to attend.
