William (Bill) Plunkett IV of Sioux Falls, formerly of Whitewood, died February 4th, 2025 at his home in Sioux Falls at the age of 64. Bill (known to his family and friends as Billy) was born on August 11, 1960 in Whitewood, the youngest of 6 children, to William (III) and Darleen Plunkett. He grew up in Whitewood, attending elementary school there, and later graduated from Sturgis Brown High School in 1979. He worked for Hale’s House Logs for many years, and was also a bartender at the Whitewood Bar. His easy-going nature and sense of humor made him easy to like and fun to be around. Later on, Bill moved to Sioux Falls and worked for Bruns Construction for many years. He helped re-build the town of Spencer after a devastating tornado, and was proud of his work on many commercial properties in the Sioux Falls area.
During his childhood, Bill spent endless weekends at Iron Creek Lake camping, fishing, and swimming. He also spent time with his dad and brother Clark fishing at Deerfield Lake and backpacking with his dad in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. In later years, he attended the family camping trip at Center Lake in Custer State Park, making his final trip in 2024, where his mom, all of his siblings, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces, and great-nephews were in attendance. Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed a variety of music (he once sang in the Messiah), golfing, and riding his bicycle around Sioux Falls. He was the consummate joker, always ready with a joke or pun. He also liked to collect all kinds of things, and had an eye for unusual treasures.
Bill is survived by his mother Darleen, siblings Patrice Fields (Manny), Chris Kaitfors (Ray), Clark Plunkett (Kayleen), Linda Trautman (Mike), and Marcy Satterfield (Delburn), nephews Jason, Jeremy, Ryan (Heather), Tyler (Maggie), and Travis (Aaron), nieces Hillary (Bob), Jenny (Tommy), Mandy, Kelsey (Declan), and Riley, and 17 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Mabel Carlson, William (II) and Mildred Plunkett, his father William Plunkett (III), his nephew Justin, and his niece Erin.
A celebration of life will be held later this spring in Whitewood for Billy’s friends and family.
