Robert ‘Bob’ Lewis Morrow

Robert ‘Bob’ Morrow was born on January 12, 1936, to Fern Salmon and Fred Morrow. His family moved to Rapid City, where they bought and operated the Horseshoe Motel. He attended Rapid City High School.

During the summers, he worked on the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad. In January 1953, he joined the U.S. Navy and volunteered for the submarine service. He proudly served for 21 years before retiring in August 1974 with the rank of Chief Torpedoman’s Mate (TMC) and earning his Submarine Warfare Qualification (SS). Bob dedicated much of his career to the submarine fleet, achieving the esteemed rank of Chief Petty Officer (E-7).

After the 1972 flood, he returned to Rapid City to assist with recovery efforts for his father and other victims. Following his Navy retirement, Bob worked on the construction of the South Dakota Cement Plant (SDCP). He later became the safety director before retiring once more.

Bob was deeply involved in the Masonic Order, achieving the prestigious rank of Grand Master of South Dakota. He was also a Shriner, a Knights Templar, and a member of the Scottish Rite.

Beyond these commitments, Bob was active in numerous civic organizations, including the Arbor Day Foundation, the Rapid City Beautification Committee, and the Marshall Posse. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA.

Bob had a passion for horseback riding and spent countless hours building and running his model railroad. He also loved attending Mann Family reunions, but most of all, he treasured time spent with his love Andre; his daughter, Dawn; son-in-law, Kory; and his three grandsons, who lovingly referred to him as Papa Bob.
