Norma Jean (Carson) Hansen, 91, of Spearfish, SD passed away Wednesday, June 4th, at Monument Health in Spearfish. She loved her family well and kept track of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in prayer.
She was born January 5th, 1934 in Kadoka, SD to Carol and Goldie Carson. After graduating high school she left for Brookings to attend Nursing School. She married the love of her life, Jerrold Hansen, before moving to Spearfish in 1966. The family operated a dairy in Spearfish until the early 80’s. Her love of antiques led to the opening of a shop in Spearfish called Granny’s Attic. She was a member of The Gideons Auxiliary for 50+ years. She enjoyed serving in that capacity alongside her husband. They developed many close friendships across the state and country through their cooperative ministry with The Gideons International. Whenever a discussion regarding the Word of God would transpire in her presence, she would always pull a Gideons New Testament out of her purse and make sure the conversation stayed on track.
Norma is survived by daughter Deb (Kevin) Burrington, sons Paul (Jan) Hansen, Mike (Barb) Hansen, Mark Hansen, and Matt Hansen, all of Spearfish; as well as eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerrold Hansen; her parents, Carol and Goldie Carson; and infant daughter Carrie Jo.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish.
