Mary “Jane” Teigen

Funeral Service for Mary “Jane” Teigen, 88, of Buffalo, SD will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at the Camp Crook Community Center. Burial to follow at the Little Missouri Lutheran Cemetery in Capitol, MT.

Mary “Jane” Teigen passed away on May 20, 2025 at the Sturgis Hospital.

Mary “Jane” Koogler was born in Albuquerque, NM on October 9, 1936 to William and Mary (Cheadle) Koogler. Jane’s father was a forest ranger and they lived on the Walnut Creek Ranger Station 40 miles north of Prescott, AZ. When Jane was in Kindergarten, she met her best friend Felicity Roalstad and shortly after that Jane’s mother passed away from cancer. Felicity’s mother, Bernice Alice Roalstad, recently widowed herself, and Jane’s father were married in 1945. The family with now 5 busy children, Joanne, David (Bud), Walt, Jane, and Felicity (Flip) lived in Prescott, AZ and spent their weekends and summers at the ranger station. Jane graduated high school in Prescott, AZ in 1955.

Jane and Flip were only a few months apart in age and were inseparable; they attended Colorado State University together in Fort Collins, Colorado and it was there Jane met Harlie Lee Teigen. The couple were wed December 28, 1957. They welcomed their first son Ivan and the family of three then moved to Bozeman Montana to attend college. While there they welcomed two more children, Nathan and Marilyn before finishing their time in Bozeman. It was then they all moved to the Teigen family ranch at Capitol, Montana. They added their youngest two children, William and Matthew while living and working on the HT Ranch. Jane especially loved life on the ranch, riding and branding were some of her favorites. The couple raised their children and worked on the ranch the rest of their lives.

Jane was well known for her beautiful quilts and was a charter member of the Prairie Points Quilt Guild. She also loved to read, if she had down time you would find her quilting or reading. She was an excellent baker and her renowned sugar cookies will be missed, especially by her grandchildren. Jane was a dedicated member of the Little Missouri Lutheran Church for many years and was very involved in the community and the lives of her family. Jane had a gentle and quiet spirit and a sweet demeanor; she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jane is survived by her children Ivan (Mary) Teigen Capitol MT, Nathan (Karen) Teigen Buffalo SD, Marilyn Teigen Buffalo SD, and Matthew (Tracy) Teigen Bowman ND; stepson Shaine Odell Camp Crook, SD; 11 grandchildren Tommi (Jesse) Glines, Codi (Jacob) Smith, Tessa (Allen) Beyers, Kayla (Cody) Sarsland, Tayler Teigen (Jordan), Max Teigen, Madeline (Jess) Feist, Mason (Camryn) Teigen, Kasey Teigen (Ross), Anna (Chris) Arp, and Karlin Teigen; 17 great grandchildren, her sister Felicity Forrest of Durango, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents William & Mary Koogler; stepmother Bernice (Roalstad) Koogler, siblings Joanne Jones; David (Bud) Roalstad, Walt Roalstad; husband Harlie Teigen; son William Teigen; son-in-law Jedd Parfrey, and nephew Orren Simmons.
