Ira Lloyd Olson

Ira Olson, 72, of Rapid City, SD, died Aug. 6, 2025, in Rapid City, SD.

Ira was born in Mineral Wells, TX, to Lee Allen Olson and Helga BV Ludwig Olson on July, 1, 1953. He grew up in several locations since his dad was in the military. Ira followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the Airforce. Ira was an artist; he started drawing at a young age. After the Airforce, Ira worked at the Journal. He helped create the Foundary, where he advanced his artistry. Ira carved lots of art out of rocks. He donated a piece of alabaster carved of an eagle’s head in memory of all the firefighters in 9/11 that lost their lives. He has art in Spain, California, in the Black Hills, and Nebraska.

Ira is survived by his sisters, Ila Olson, Iris Christensen, and Illona Olson. His daughters, Laura (Olson) Linder, Crystal (Olson) Garcia, and his four grandchildren, Gabrielle and Connor M.J. Linder, Tecunuman and Madison Garcia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Helga Olson, and brothers, Irving and Elden Olson.

Ira was laid to rest at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City, SD.
