Fred Herbaugh, age 66, of Murdo, South Dakota, died on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the Silverleaf Assisted Living Center in Philip.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. CST Saturday, March 22, at the Community Bible Church in Murdo.
Interment will follow at the Murdo Cemetery.
Fredrick Glen Herbaugh, better known as “Fred” by his family and friends, was born March 11, 1958 to Earnest R. and Mary Ellen (Wellman) Herbaugh. He was the second youngest of six children. Fred grew up in Okaton and attended grade school there.
Fred attended Black Hills Workshop and lived in Rapid City for a few years following his school years. He moved back to Okaton and worked at the Lyman Ranch for a couple of years before moving to the apartments in Murdo. He lived and did some janitorial work there. Fred also helped Dr. Jim and Michelle McNeely care for the husky dogs they raised.
He slipped on the ice and broke his ankle in three places and spent three months in the care of the Mary House in Pierre. After that he returned to his apartment in Murdo until moving into the Gateway Apartments in Kadoka. Due to health issues Fred moved him to the Silver Leaf Assisted Living Center in Philip.
Survivors include brother Loren Herbaugh of Vivian and sister Starla Brown of Kadoka; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Mary Ellen Herbaugh; brothers: Gary, Roger, and Keith Herbaugh; and brother-in-law Bill Brown.
