Dolores Obr of Rapid City, formerly of Belvidere, South Dakota, died on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Avantara Arrowhead Living Center in Rapid City at the age of 102.
Dolores Mayriene (Mosher) Obr, the youngest of 10 children, was born to Hiram Adelbert and Mae Blanche (Wakefield) Mosher, at Wecota, SD, on March 20,1922 and on November 10, 2024, at the age of 102, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Dolores and her family lived in various locations around Kadoka, SD and after the death of her father in 1933, the family settled in town. She graduated from Kadoka High School in 1941. During her high school years, she worked at the Dakotah Hotel Café, where she met her future husband, Adolph Frank (Ding) Obr. They were married on September 14, 1941. Adolph and Dolores moved several times during World War II to follow his work for the Civil Service.
Following the war, they settled in Belvidere, where Adolph joined his father and brother in the family business, and where they raised their family of six children. Dolores was active in the community, serving in various positions in the church and school. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies Evening Circle of the Church and the Extension Club.
She worked as Jackson County Clerk of Courts in Kadoka for nearly 10 years and later as Post Mistress in Belvidere after having served part time as Postal Clerk substitute for many years. She was widowed in 1978 when Adolph died of lung cancer. After her retirement from the postal service, she was content to remain at home and live a quiet life. She did volunteer work at the CAP office in Kadoka and she often helped others by taking them to medical appointments in Rapid City. Dolores enjoyed driving and often could be found exploring the countryside with her friends.
At age 95, because it was no longer safe for her to live alone, she moved to the Silver Leaf Assisted Living apartments in Philip. In the spring of 2021, she fell in her apartment and suffered a severely broken leg. From that time on, she needed more care than Silver Leaf could provide, so for the rest of her life she resided at the Avantara Arrowhead Nursing Home in Rapid City.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Adolph, all of her siblings, great grandson Matthew Reynolds, and son-in-law Marvin Street.
She is survived by her children: Keitha (Larry) Neuharth, Marjorie Street, Elaine Fuhrmann, Crystal Paulson, Bill Obr and Gary (April) Obr; grandchildren: Kristen (Danny) Jurgens, Shane Street, Clint (Becky) Street, Lance Fuhrmann, Jolyn (Mike) Sackmann, Davina (John) Hert, Ardell Paulson, Leonard Paulson, Anthony (Cassie) Obr, Erin (Seth) Mills, Philip (Cassidy) Reynolds, Melford Brown, and Michael Brown; forty-six great-grandchildren and nine double-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at the Rush Funeral Chapel in Kadoka.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at the Belvidere Community Church.
Interment will follow at the Belvidere Cemetery.
