David G. “Box” Walker

David G. “Box” Walker, age 70, of Philip, died Monday, July 14, at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip.

A memorial visitation with luncheon will be from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, July 18, at the Rush Funeral Home in Philip.

Graveside services will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. Cards and memorials may be sent to P.O. Box 68, Philip, SD 57567.

David G. “Box” Walker was born August 10, 1954, in Kadoka, South Dakota, the son of Warren and Deloris (Wiley) Walker. Dave attended school in Philip, graduating from Philip High School in 1973. He then attended the University of South Dakota for two years.

David was united in marriage to Mary Johnson in November 1976, and to this union was born a daughter Kristi. Dave worked many years at Kennedy Implement, one year at Coyle’s SuperValu and two years at 4E Foods, all in Philip. Box was a huge Cubs fan, and would let everyone know when the Cubs won.

Survivors include his daughter Kristi Leach (Eric vanZanten); sisters Lynn Hanson, Lora Walker; brothers Warren “Chip” (Diane) Walker, Dan (Theresa) Walker, Don Walker, Dean (Linda) Walker, and Scott (Lory)Walker; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Lorene Triebwasser.
