Dane Axel Nordquist was born June 4th , 1989 in Pierre SD to Timothy and Dana
(Weischedel) Nordquist. He was two weeks late but just on time, debuting the same
day, 29 years later, in the same hospital as his mother. He spent his childhood years in
Miller, Webster, and Rapid City SD. He graduated from RC Central High School in
2007, and continued on to college at SDSU, SDSM&T, and BHS. He met the love of his
life, Melanie, and they were joined in marriage on June 6, 2014.
He was a devoted and patient father. Together they welcomed three children to their
lives: Keagan (9), Logan (8), and Avacyn (5), along with their fur babies. Their home
was the gathering place for many family celebrations, and Dane’s specialty was his
world-famous chocolate chip cookies. Dane enjoyed many hobbies like writing short
stories and poetry, Magic the Gathering, various forms of gaming, woodworking, 3D
printing, hunting/fishing, and sharing his awesome voice doing karaoke.
Dane spent time in multiple choirs too, including the Rapid City Children’s Choir, and
participated in high school and beyond. He grew taller than most of his choir mates, and
was always asked if he was a basketball player. If asked how tall he was, he’d reply,
“5’19”
His sense of humor, positive attitude and endless amounts of compassion grew Dane’s
friend group to countless numbers. Everyone that met him instantly knew he was one of
the good ones. He was a Certified Pharmaceutical Technician at Monument Health and
Oyate Health Center. His kind heart glows from his children also, especially Keagan
who is making sure he’s taking extra special care of his mother now. He was also the
favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews, and would often make special time to take
them out to the movies.
Dane, 35, died on Sunday January 12 th in Rapid City SD. Survivors include his wife
Melanie and their kids Keagan, Logan and Avacyn, his mother Dana Nordquist, sister
NaTasha and her spouse Steffan, 6 nieces and 5 nephews, and endless friends who
became family.
He was preceded in death by his father Timothy Nordquist and best friend Richard
Kipena.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 5:30 PM Thursday, January 16, 2025 at Calvary Community Chapel, 320 E. St Patrick Street, Rapid City, SD 57701.
