Carla Halverson

Carla Joy Halverson, a beacon of love and laughter, passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 21, 2024, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Born on May 31, 1949, in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Arnold and Esther Halverson, Carla’s early years in the heartland instilled in her the values of kindness, dedication, and the joy of life that would define her character.

Carla’s educational journey began at Mount Vernon High School, where she blossomed into a bright and eager student. Her thirst for knowledge and her passion for helping others led her to South Dakota State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. These formative years laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to education and personal growth. After completing her education, Carla channeled her love for learning into a fulfilling career as a school teacher in Montrose, Colorado. Her students remember her as a nurturing and creative force who could make any lesson memorable. Later, she transitioned into the world of finance, where she excelled as a financial advisor and accountant until her well-deserved retirement. Her professional life was marked by the same warmth and wisdom that she carried in her personal endeavors. Carla’s interests were as varied as they were vibrant. She had an exceptional talent for sewing, creating beautiful garments that were as much pieces of art as they were labors of love. Her musical abilities were no less impressive, as she found joy in playing instruments and sharing melodies with those around her. A globetrotter at heart, Carla’s travels took her all over the world, each adventure adding to a tapestry of cherished memories. Her love for her dogs was unparalleled, and she often said that their companionship was one of life’s greatest comforts. Those who knew Carla will fondly remember her as loving, kind, and funny—a person who could light up a room with her humor and whose generosity knew no bounds. She had the rare ability to find humor in the mundane and to turn everyday moments into lasting memories. Carla is survived by her brother, Roger (Jill) Halverson, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews who were a significant part of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Esther Halverson, and her brothers, Kent and Scot Halverson. Her family was her anchor, and she cherished the time spent with her loved ones. As we remember Carla, we are reminded of the words of Helen Keller: “What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” Carla’s spirit, her love, and her laughter have become a part of all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.

Carla Joy Halverson’s life was a journey of joy, learning, and love—a journey that touched many and left the world a better place. While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the extraordinary life she led and the countless lives she enriched. Her story is one of a life well-lived, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Upon her request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.
