Andrew Alvin Aronson Sr.

Andrew Alvin Aronson Sr., affectionately known as “Andy” to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on May 19, 1934, in Blair, Nebraska, Andy grew up in Magnolia, Iowa, as one of eight siblings. His upbringing in a large family fostered a strong sense of resourcefulness and the playful, ornery nature for which he was well known.

In 1952, Andy answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably until 1956. Following his service in the Air Force, he continued his commitment to his country by joining the Army Reserve from 1956 to 1958. During this time, Andy married the love of his life, Shirley, in 1956, beginning a devoted marriage that would last nearly seven decades.

After his military service, Andy pursued his passion for education, earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Black Hills State University. He went on to become a dedicated teacher, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with students and teachers in several schools throughout Wyoming. Andy was not only a teacher by profession but also by nature, always eager to share his love for carpentry, fishing, hunting, and gardening with others. He took particular pride in the roses he cultivated.

In addition to his love for teaching and the outdoors, Andy had a natural talent for technology and computers. He was a pioneer in this field, opening the first computer store in the state of Wyoming, aptly named the Wyoming Computer Company.

Andy and Shirley were blessed with three children who brought immense joy to their lives. Their first daughter, Teresa Meek, was born in 1959, followed by Lucy Goodall in 1960, and Andrew Aronson Jr. in 1962. Andy’s family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and the lives they built.

Throughout his life, Andy’s practical jokes and good-natured humor brought laughter and joy to those around him. His generosity and love for learning will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A service to honor Andy’s life will be held on Wednesday morning, August 21, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at Sturgis United Methodist Church, Sturgis, South Dakota. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery. The service will be hosted by Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Andy will be deeply missed by his wife Shirley, his sisters, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
