NEW UNDERWOOD, S.D. – The National Transportation Safety Board has issued a preliminary crash report on a fatal plane crash that happened near New Underwood.
The NTSB says the Piper PA-22 had taken off from a private airport in Box Elder for a local area flight and crashed a little after 6:00 a.m. on July 28.
The aircraft hit a powerline along the edge of a pasture about five miles southeast of the private airfield, come to rest upside down about 650 feet from the powerline. Portions of the powerline became entangled with the plane.
The NTSB says its preliminary investigation didn’t find any problems with the airframe or the engine that could have caused the crash.
