NISLAND, S.D. – A man from Nisland died and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening, five miles north of Nisland, SD.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the 22-year-old driver of a Chevrolet S10 was traveling south on Beet Road near its intersection with Reid Road. A Dodge Dakota was traveling east on Reid Road, approaching Beet Road. The 24-year-old driver of the Dakota failed to yield, entering the intersection and was struck by the S10. Both vehicles came to rest in a drainage ditch.
The driver of the S10 was ejected from his vehicle and flown to a Rapid City hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Dakota sustained fatal injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
