RAPID CITY, S.D. — Western Dakota Technical College (WDTC) has announced the unanimous appointment of Kendra Ericson, Ph.D., as its 10th president, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Ericson will succeed the late Dr. Ann Bolman, who passed away in September 2024.
The WDTC Board of Trustees, with assistance from executive search firm Hazard, Young & Attea (HYA), conducted a comprehensive search process that included extensive stakeholder engagement to identify the ideal candidate.
Dr. Ericson brings a wealth of experience to the role, holding a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, a Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Trinity College of Nursing.
For the past five years, Dr. Ericson has served as President of St. Luke’s College in Sioux City, Iowa. Her prior experience includes seven years as Director of Nursing Education at Des Moines Area Community College in Iowa and LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. Her career began as a practicing nurse before transitioning into academic and leadership roles, providing her with deep insights into career and technical education and workforce development, which are crucial for the economic landscape of the Rapid City area.
Dr. Steve Willard, WDTC Acting President, stated, “We are very excited to welcome incoming Western Dakota Technical College president Dr. Kendra Ericson. Her experience as a college president and background in technical education should lend itself to making WDTC a leader in technical education in the region.”
Nationally recognized for her leadership in accreditation and contributions to the technical college sector, Dr. Ericson is known for her dynamic and collaborative leadership style. Her commitment extends to community advocacy, particularly in workforce and economic development initiatives.

Together with leadership, staff, and community partners, we will enhance the learner experience and strengthen the Western Dakota region through innovative technical and workforce education.”
Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. Ericson is an avid competitive runner and enjoys outdoor activities, recently completing a 100K race.
