RAPID CITY, S.D. — The deadline to apply for the newly-formed Mount Rushmore Road Business Improvement District (BID) board of directors has been extended to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, the city announced Monday.
The city is seeking five business or property owners to serve on the board, which will oversee improvements to the commercial corridor, including landscaping, security and seasonal decorations. The deadline was extended after some prospective applicants experienced technical difficulties submitting their applications.
Anyone who has already submitted an application is asked to resubmit it.
The new BID was formed after a group of business and property owners along Mount Rushmore Road requested it to continue and expand upon their existing efforts. For several years, the group independently funded and provided Christmas decorations along the corridor through various grants, but those grants are no longer available.
Board members, who will be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the Common Council, will serve either one- or two-year terms.
A property owner is defined as an officer or director of a corporation that owns property, a manager or member of a limited liability company that owns property, a partner in a partnership that owns property, or a designated representative of a property owner, appointed in writing.
Once appointed, the board will develop bylaws and a plan for annual work and assessments, which will be presented to the City Council for a public hearing. The City Council will then take action on the plan and assessment.
