Bears’ Tyrique Stevenson set to return to Washington year after embarrassing loss

Tyrique Stevenson says he’s ready to return to the scene of one of the most embarrassing moments in NFL history Monday night when the Chicago Bears visit Washington. Last year, the Chicago cornerback had his back turned to the field, then rushed in and tipped Jayden Daniels’ 52-yard desperation pass to Noah Brown for a winning touchdown. Said Stevenson: “Just use it as motivation to come out and stay focused on all tasks and definitely, definitely learn to wait until the clock hits double-zeroes. Just use that as a learning curve to mature and be the cornerback that this team needs.”

The decision comes after a lower court judge on Monday upheld the local law and the Long Island Roller Rebels said they planned to challenge the lower court ruling. The league’s president said players were “thrilled” at the higher court decision.

In his initial stint with the Stars, Gulutzan was a first-time head coach overseeing an aging team basically run by the league while going through bankruptcy, an ownership change and a lockout-shortened season. When the Stars open their season Thursday night at Winnipeg, the 54-year-old Gulutzan is back in charge of a team that has been to the Western Conference final each of the past three seasons.

NFL kickers are now making long-distance field goals more frequently, with many kicks exceeding 60 yards. This shift has sparked questions about whether the balls are altered. A rule change this year allows teams to prepare kicking balls before game day, leading to more consistent performance. There have already been four kicks of at least 60 yards this season, close to the single-season record. The new rules have also impacted punts, with average distances increasing. Kickers say the broken-in balls add a few extra yards to their kicks.
