World Boxing will require sex testing for fighters before world championships in September

The governing body for Olympic-style boxing will require sex testing for all fighters wishing to compete in the women’s division at its world championships next month. World Boxing already had announced its plan to require competitors to undergo a polymerase chain reaction test or an equivalent genetic screening test to determine their sex at birth. It announced Wednesday that the rules will be implemented ahead of the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England, in early September. The tests identify the presence or absence of Y chromosome genetic material as the indicator of biological sex.

Brian Rolapp held his first news conference since replacing Jay Monahan as the person in charge. Woods is chair of the nine-member “Future Competition Committee.” It will have a blank canvas to look at the model. Rolapp says the idea is to uphold traditions without being bound by them. He says he wants what’s best to strengthen the tour. But when asked about LIV Golf, he felt the best players already are on the PGA Tour.

The NCAA recently raised the FBS entry fee to $5 million, but both schools see long-term advantages. Missouri State’s coach, Ryan Beard, is preparing for the challenges ahead, focusing on recruiting and strategic planning. Delaware’s coach, Ryan Carty, is excited about showcasing the school’s brand on a national stage.

New US Open mixed doubles tournament begins and 4 teams are already halfway to the $1 million prize

The new U.S. Open mixed doubles tournament drew plenty of criticism for everything from its format to its field. With mostly singles players, some who rarely play doubles at all, it felt less like a Grand Slam championship than an exhibition — which is what one player referred to it as Tuesday. It’s a fast-pace event, with shorter matches and a smaller field, and the final four is already set. Whoever wins the trophy and a $1 million prize Wednesday night won’t apologize for how they got it.

Auburn claims 4 additional ‘national championships’ on its football resume

Auburn is claiming four additional football national titles and will call itself a nine-time champion moving forward. The Tigers boasted titles in 1957 and 2010 for decades. They also claimed the 1913, 1983 and 1993 seasons as meeting national championship qualifications. Now, though, athletic director John Cohen is adding titles from 1910, 1914, 1958 and 2004 to the program’s resume. It’s laudable by some and laughable by others. Cohen says “our visible national championship recognitions now align with the well-established standard used by the NCAA’s official record book and our peers across the nation.”

That also means players who aren’t eligible for the biggest events might have only two tournaments for which they are eligible. MacIntyre’s frustration: Scheffler’s long chip the latest epic shot to go against the Scot

Robert MacIntyre has faced two of golf’s most memorable shots this year. On Sunday, Scottie Scheffler’s 82-foot chip at the BMW Championship helped seal a two-stroke win over MacIntyre. That’s after J.J. Spaun’s long putt at the U.S. Open sealed a victory there over MacIntyre. MacIntyre started strong with a first-round 62 this week at Caves Valley, but he faltered with a final round of 73. His four-shot lead vanished within five holes due to three bogeys.

Marlins’ Dane Myers gets heckled by fan at Fenway Park. He hits tying homer and fan ejected

Marlins right fielder Dane Myers felt like a fan at Fenway Park was heckling him beyond what was appropriate. The verbal abuse before he hit a tying homer in the ninth inning to help Miami rally past the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. Myers said the heckling began in the eighth when the Red Sox led 3-2 and continued in the ninth, after he homered and rookie Jakob Marsee followed with a two-run shot to put the Marlins on top. Myers said he yelled back at the fan in the ninth before security workers intervened and removed the heckler.

Reds end Brewers’ franchise-record, 14-game winning streak on Hays’ bases-loaded hit in the 10th

Austin Hays’ single with the bases loaded in the 10th inning gave the Cincinnati Reds a 3-2 victory over Milwaukee on Sunday, ending the Brewers’ franchise-record winning streak at 14 games. Milwaukee had barely pulled out the previous two games in Cincinnati for its longest streak ever in one season and the longest in the majors since the St. Louis Cardinals won 17 straight from Sept. 11 to Sept. 28, 2021. This time, Spencer Steer’s sacrifice bunt in the 10th advanced designated runner TJ Friedl to third. After intentional walks to Elly De La Cruz and Will Benson loaded the bases, Hays laced a single to down the third-base line for his second career walk-off hit.

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola’s first start after returning from the injured list didn’t last long. Third baseman Alec Bohm, meanwhile, made a big contribution in his first game back. Nola allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings against the Washington Nationals, a start that ended when seven consecutive batters reached safely. Nola struck out four in his first major league outing since May 14. New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart completed 13 consecutive passes and was 14 of 16 in his second NFL preseason game. Two impressive showings to open exhibition play should have the organization and fans excited about his long-term future. But they have done nothing to change the plan for developing Dart after trading up to draft him in the first round and keeping veteran Russell Wilson firmly implanted as the starter. Brian Daboll insists there’s a roadmap in place that the Giants are sticking to, even if the offensive-minded coach isn’t exactly being forthright about what it entails.

The 32-year-old Bridgewater still keeps in touch with the high school team but is also happy to be in Tampa Bay, where he brings a veteran presence to a quarterback room led by Baker Mayfield.

Two-time champion Brooke Henderson birdied all four par-5 holes for a 7-under 65 on Thursday in The Standard Portland Classic, leaving the slumping Canadian a stroke behind first-round leader Adela Cernousek. Henderson won the first of her 13 LPGA Tour titles in 2015 by eight strokes at Columbia Edgewater at age 17, and successfully defended the following year. Now 27, she’s winless since January 2023 and has dipped to 52nd in the world. Cernousek shot a 65 in the final group of the day off the 10th tee. The 22-year-old Frenchwoman played her final nine holes in 7-under 29 — highlighted by an eagle on No. 7. Robert MacIntyre runs off 6 birdies in a row for 62 to lead BMW Championship

Robert MacIntyre matched the low score of his PGA Tour career with what he calls the best stretch of putting he’s ever had. The Scot closed with six straight birdies for a 62 in the BMW Championship. That gives him a three-shot lead over Tommy Fleetwood. Scottie Scheffler had his 14th consecutive round in the 60s and was in the group another shot behind. Most of them were helped by a two-hour storm delay that dumped heavy rain on Caves Valley. That made the course softer when they returned. Rickie Fowler shot 67 and took a step toward East Lake.

In February 2022, Flores sued the league and several teams, saying the league was “rife with racism,” particularly in its hiring and promotion of Black coaches. NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the league disagrees with the ruling and will seek further review.

Venezuela’s senior team, players who are up to 16, which was supposed to compete in South Carolina, last month was unable to get the exemption and was denied entry to the U.S.
