Jaguars acquire receiver Tim Patrick from Lions for a sixth-round draft pick in 2026

The Jacksonville Jaguars are acquiring wide receiver Tim Patrick from Detroit for a sixth-round draft pick in 2026. The 31-year-old Patrick just needs to pass a physical for it to be official. Patrick missed all of 2022 and 2023 because of injuries but bounced back last season. He played 16 games for the Lions and finished with 33 receptions for 394 yards and three touchdowns. The Jaguars expect him to become their No. 5 receiver. They had been looking for a bigger receiver who could block on the perimeter and play special teams. Jacksonville waived receiver Austin Trammell to make room for Patrick on its roster.

US Open tennis champs Alcaraz, Federer and Nadal love golf. Golfers say the tennis stars have game

Carlos Alcaraz used his racket to pantomime using a club on the course after his first victory at this year’s U.S. Open. Perhaps that was a nod to one of the fans in the stands at Arthur Ashe Stadium, golf star Rory McIlroy. Plenty of athletes eyeing a trophy on the hard courts of New York, including the man Alcaraz beat in the 2022 final, Casper Ruud, and 2024 runner-up Jessica Pegula, are swapping fuzzy yellow tennis balls for dimpled white golf balls as a way to relax. So are past greats such as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

By the looks of things on Tuesday in Arthur Ashe Stadium as the now-three-day first round wrapped up, the two players who triumphed at the All England Club last month — and who both served short doping-related bans last year — look ready to contend again in New York. Swiatek dropped three games, Sinner four.

Keegan Bradley decides on Wednesday whether to become the first playing captain in the Ryder Cup since 1963. There is only one outcome to spare him a new level of second-guessing. The Americans have to win. Bradley is one of the top Americans. The Ryder Cup captaincy takes up a lot of time. If he plays and the Americans lose at Bethpage Black, it’s because he had too much on his plate and should have picked someone else. If he doesn’t play and the Americans lose, it’s because he didn’t put forth the best team. It’s only a moot point if the Americans win.

That could threaten his availability for the start of the 2026 season. The 35-year-old right-hander, who leads the National League with 195 strikeouts and was considered a Cy Young candidate, had surgery Monday to remove a blood clot from his upper right arm. While the loss is a blow to Philadelphia’s World Series hopes, team officials remain optimistic about their pitching depth and Wheeler’s eventual return.

In Little League, when the ball is in play, runners cannot advance if it is returned to the pitcher and he is back on the mound with the catcher in the catcher’s box. But until then, the runners can keep moving.

It previously had been recommended by league athletic directors. The SEC has played eight conference games each season since 1992 when the conference expanded to 12 teams with the addition of Arkansas and South Carolina. The Atlantic Coast Conference still plays eight league games. The Big 12 and the Big Ten already play nine.

The popularity explosion in women’s basketball has fueled this record-setting season. It started with the college rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, carried over into their rookie seasons and has continued with the arrival of Paige Bueckers this year.
