Tyrese Haliburton hosts youth basketball camp as recovery from Achilles tendon injury continues

Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton was back on the basketball court and back on his feet. No, he wasn’t running or shooting. It’s far too early for that just two months into his Achilles tendon rehab. But it was progress. And being at the Indiana Pacers Athletic Center in suburban Indianapolis, surrounded by 300-plus eager youth basketball campers, brought back Haliburton’s million-dollar smile, too. It might be the best medicine he’ll get all year since team officials have ruled him for all of next season.

Morris said he didn’t have any other details on McGary’s injury. Teams can put two players on injured reserve with a designation to return when rosters are cut to 53 players on Tuesday. McGary’s absence means the Falcons will have to find a new blocker to protect the blind side of left-handed quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

McLean allowed four hits and two runs in seven innings during New York’s 12-7 win over the Atlanta Braves. Connecticut’s clever, relentless baserunning strategy draws attention at Little League World Series

Four teams are set for Saturday’s semifinals at the Little League World Series. In a runaway, none have sparked interest and conversation quite like the team from Connecticut. Fairfield’s club representing the Metro Region is relentless on offense. It has outscored opponents 26-5 in four games while pushing the limits of Little League’s extra-bases — a move that can be seen as either clever or sneaky or both. In Little League, when the ball is in play, runners cannot advance if it is returned to the pitcher and he is back on the mound with the catcher in the catcher’s box. But until then, the runners can keep moving.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, aka Sincaraz, rule men’s tennis as the 2025 US Open arrives

They’ll still play the full U.S. Open starting Sunday in New York, but it might save some time to skip ahead to the men’s final on Sept. 7. That’s because just about everyone in tennis expects it to be another Grand Slam showdown between Jannik Sinner — assuming he’s healthy — and Carlos Alcaraz. They have combined to win the past seven major championships and played each other to decide the titles at the French Open in June and Wimbledon in July. Five women have divided the past five Grand Slam trophies, a group that includes Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff.

San Diego Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. made a sensational leaping catch to rob San Francisco’s Rafael Devers of a home run. The left-handed Devers lifted a high fly ball off left-hander JP Sears with one out in the first inning. Tatis tracked it to his left, perfectly timed his leap and got his glove above the wall to make the catch. When he came back down, he landed on his backside and sat against the wall for a moment. He popped up and tossed the ball from his glove to his right hand and threw it in. Sears pointed and smiled at Tatis.

The Italians beat No. 3 seeds Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud 6-3, 5-7 (10-6), winning four matches over two days to earn $1 million – a huge raise over their earnings in New York last year in a format that looked nothing like this one. Errani and Vavassori were among the many critics of the changes to the event that shut out every other traditional doubles pairing, but had nothing but smiles inside a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Now, though, athletic director John Cohen is adding titles from 1910, 1914, 1958 and 2004 to the program’s resume. It’s laudable by some and laughable by others. Cohen says “our visible national championship recognitions now align with the well-established standard used by the NCAA’s official record book and our peers across the nation.”
