RAPID CITY, S.D. – A motorcycle fire in Cleghorn Canyon was quickly put out by the owner Thursday afternoon, minimizing the need for extensive fire department action in the Black Hills.

At approximately 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, the Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department (JSVFD) was dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire in Cleghorn Canyon, a residential area west of Rapid City, South Dakota.

As crews were en route, Dispatch clarified that the vehicle involved was a motorcycle on fire in a driveway.

Chief Smart was the first to arrive on-scene. The fire’s owner had already extinguished the flames using a garden hose.

Chief Smart advised Engine 1-2 to return to Station 1. Tender 1-4, which carries a large volume of water, continued to the location as a precautionary measure before also being cleared.

All JSVFD units were cleared from the incident shortly after 3:00 p.m., as no further action was required by the fire department.
