STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor will miss the rest of the season because of a foot injury that requires surgery, the school said in a statement on Tuesday.

Taylor was one of the best players in the country during the first month of the season but injured a toe on Sept. 26 in a win over Missouri and couldn't get back to full health. The school said he's expected to make a full recovery.

“Over the last few weeks, I've worked every day with our medical staff and done everything possible to be out there with my teammates,” Taylor said in a statement. “Missing the rest of the season is hard to accept, but I know God has a plan.”

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound sophomore threw for 1,460 yards, 17 touchdowns and four interceptions over six games.

“Kamario is one of the most dynamic players in college football, and he will remain an important part of our team as he begins his recovery,” the school's statement said.
