STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade County Sheriff’s Office held their monthly training Monday, featuring a presentation by Deputy Gary Rogers on Crisis Intervention Training.

C.I.T. equips first responders with the skills needed to successfully de-escalate and resolve incidents involving citizens in a mental health crisis. Meade County Sheriff Pat West says this training is a crucial step in ensuring the safety of both our community and our deputies.

This initiative is part of the COPS Hiring Grant awarded to the department by the Department of Justice in 2023.

West says a tremendous amount of effort went into securing the grant and selecting the right deputy to lead this vital training.

West says as they continue to expand this program, they look forward to sharing this valuable training with other agencies across Meade County and beyond.
