STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade County Sheriff’s Office released their final Rally statistics for the 85th annual event Monday.

Sheriff Pat West says deputies handled 1,523 calls for service this year, up from last year’s 1,203.

There were 639 traffic stops, 47 D.U.I. arrests, 22  drug arrests, 8 simple assaults and 11 injury crashes involving county deputies. D.U.I.’s, traffic stops and injury crashes were all up over last year.

West says in total, 385 individuals were introduced to the Meade County legal system this year. He says some had the pleasure of visiting the court system “bright and early in the morning, resolving their cases before heading out the door.” However, he says others would be making a return trip to court to handle their case.

West says on the traffic side, 200 citations were issued, along with 226 written warnings.

He reminded citizens that Meade County does not see any money from citations issued. He says the bulk of those fines go directly to local school districts.
