STURGIS, S.D. – Meade 46-1 Superintendent Wayne Wormstadt presented some budget deficit community recommendations to the school board this week.

Wormstadt tells KBHB it’s based on ideas from both the community and staff members.

Wormstadt says he also touched on alternatives.

Some of the proposals include freezing admin and staff pay, health insurance reform, hiring freezes and attrition for cost savings, and liquidating unused space in buildings.

Wormstadt says the district is also negotiating custodial, athletic training and bus contracts worth just over $2 million.

The board also got up an update from Wormstadt on board elections with some changes from the Legislature.

However, Wormstadt says there is another side to it.

Wormstadt says election dates would still remain as part of the June primary, in coordination with the county.
