Meade 46-1 School Board gets preliminary enrollment numbers at Monday meeting

STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade 46-1 School Board gets together for their September monthly meeting tonight.

On the agenda, the unofficial preliminary fall enrollment count that was taken on September 5th.

Unofficial preliminary numbers show K-12 attendance for the fall semester at 2,993. The district had budgeted for 3,028, which was last year’s count.

The official fall enrollment count will be taken on the last Friday in September.

The board will also take action on several policy readings up for third and final passage.

They include compulsory attendance ages, exemptions from school attendance and multioccupancy bathroom use. All three policies had recently been updated by the Associated School Boards of South Dakota.

The board will also recognize Dr. David Olson, principal at Stagebarn Middle School. Olson has been named the 2026 State Middle School Principal of the Year. The recognition took place at SMS on Friday, September 5.

The board meets tonight (Monday) at 5:30 in the Board Room at the Williams Administration Building in Sturgis.
